Inspiration strikes in the most mundane moments
Making art based on music broke me out of a 5-year art block in 2024 - and I haven't looked back since. I create colourful, bold, saturated artwork, loosely inspired by lyrics and melodies that make my heart soar.
Picture this: You're on a late bus home, it's dark, cold and raining outside, you have your headphones in with your favourite song cranked to full volume. Your imagination runs away from you and the song surrounds you. Maybe colours, scenes, objects flash in time to the music, like stills from a movie.
This is how I create. I run home and sketch the idea, scribble the lyrics, and note down colours and vibes. It doesn't always turn out exactly how I planned, but one way or another, the song becomes a piece of art and, by extension, a piece of myself down on canvas or paper.
On a reread of this story, I think I sound like a crazy person. I stand by it, because I know we're all a little crazy when it comes to our favourite things. That's what makes them so special.
