Born in Berlin but raised in the small town of Bad Salzuflen, Mina Richman commutes between worlds and discovers treasures such as Joan as Policewoman and Nina Simone in her aunt's CD collection. In 2022 she released her debut EP “Jaywalker”, for which she was nominated as “best newcomer” for the PopNRW award. Raised as a feminist by her father “by accident”, she adapted the famous Cher quote “Mom, I am a rich man” for her artist name.
The solidarity song “Baba Said” went viral in 2022 during the revolution in Iran, allowing the German Iranian and openly queer Mina Richman to combine her music with activism, which she considers a duty and a privilege. On her debut album “Grown Up”, released in 2024, Mina Richman confronts the complicated process of growing up. With honesty and vulnerability, she returns to her childhood and processes fighting parents, cultural uprooting and the social as well as her personal relationship with her body.
Her sound draws inspiration from soul, folk and hip-hop that she developed and constantly refines with her band, consisting of Friedrich Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Alexander Mau and Leon Brames. In 2024 was awarded the PopNRW prize in the category “Outstanding artist”. In March 2025 she released her Sophomore EP “Past 25”. On the 14th of August 2026 her sophomore album “Different Flavours of Being Happy” will be released. In October and November, Mina Richman plays 28 headline shows across Germany and Austria with her band.
